satellites lost transmission in the dark we surrender our voice battle lines drawn division for every angle a channel to sell us a choice where is the noise? narratives louder than bombs guilty lips with so little to say manipulated for an ear so feeble arrogance trotted out like the grey parade i want to feel your rage for every cut a good soul bleeds the source you choose is the devil you feed the clock ticking begs decision shouting mouths still belabor the point shadowlands forge derision the well-informed stand joined in disbelief we're all in disbelief for every cut a good soul bleeds the source you choose is the devil you feed lie after lie a weakness for greed our darkest hour the devil you feed

Persephone 04:45
wordlessly she collects her effects she calls in her marks she draws back the nets she harvests every last bitter regret all their days misspent she hauls in her catch with some dark left to burn unsurprised that they never learn a secret swims behind her eyes perhaps a word for the wise wearily rise the dispossessed they bluster forth they coalesce they manifest their insanity the bleak disease they gust through the night stirring up debris they curse out the stars for their misery consumed by their infinite agony aching for a reprieve silently a finger drawn to her lips she stares them down they acquiesce they've long since surrendered their liberty their legacy another eve and it begins a desperate dance without an end rather than laying blame at her feet they accept their defeat they curse out your name they curse their disease don't take it too hard darling Persephone if there lies a fault you're not the one to blame they've squandered their time it's theirs to carry that weight

Change 04:15
we feel lonely and unfulfilled where's the happiness? the next gadget won't fill the void we're still empty inside this world is cruel and it makes us insane will nothing ever change? for every ill a distraction will play i just need something to change mission accomplished we've won the day now we pack and move on we have another crusade to fight eternal war to the end this world is bleak and it thrives on our pain will nothing ever change? for every resource a war can be waged i just need something to change the big man promised to make us rich to keep us safe from our fears just like the last man who stole our dreams no it can't happen again this world is cold and our loss is their gain will nothing ever change? for every crime a dissident can be blamed i just need something to change you never change your strategy in the middle of the stream we'll plug away we'll see it through we'll stay the course 'til the grave i just need something to change i just need something to change march in the grey parade will it ever change?

forever can pass the skies can go dark and still the wind will whisper your name stars may fade eras will pass and still the wind will whisper your name i will go where your heart beats still to the place where your flame still burns and the wind carries your grace i will hold the best of you in my heart the rest of my days and to the wind i'll whisper your name echoes of the laughter shared ripple through the days to come and still the wind carries your love we are only moments in time all too briefly do we connect yet still the wind will whisper our names
6.
we recoil when we discover the monsters that walk among us the creatures that we thought we knew we have nothing in common they'd rather berate and they'd rather deny they'd rather frame to rig the game and there's no shame eyes that seem so alive and yet so unaware they look like you and me though they lack empathy they troll the ones they despise they live to share their despair at a loss to defend they are less than human we react when we uncover the players that conspire against us the social bonds we thought we had we have nothing to count on when the language fails then the egos dig in the dialog becomes insane and it's such a shame we recoil when we discover the murder that lurks inside us the creatures that we have become how do we reconcile? it's a mad mad world how do we navigate? it's a mad mad world is there no way out? is there no way?

we've come to destroy you we've come to destroy you we'll burn you down crater the ground and once we're through no one will remember you we've come to destroy you we all remember the hunger and fear we all remember the cold we all remember the slamming of doors remember the lash and the hole your grifters and hustlers they burned down our homes they sold us to financiers they murdered our children and left us for dead they toasted to our blackest years our gunfire is ripping the hinges of dawn our voices the fall of Rome our legions are marching a city of rain a flood in the Valley of Chrome

Drift 04:08
you castaway from your past disasters enjoy your stay iconoclastic bastard i can't say i know what you're suffering through i wouldn't know what i would do there's something amiss in your passionless laughter frozen stiff cast in alabaster i can't say i know what you're running from you look as though you've been hurting someone you drift on in and then you drift away you toy with hearts and then you lead them astray i see you brood inside you lament that temper a mood you hide why, you can't remember i'm starting to see how it comes to pass how nothing for you ever seems to last you forge ahead with the best intentions then come to resent your inner indiscretions you edit yourself the way one edits a page undoing your past in a smoldering rage you drift on through and then you drift on by you enter lives and then you wave goodbye look inside and tell me what you see what would it take to ever set you free? you say all you want is a little closure but the fool i see is crying for exposure recognize the ones around that you hurt your callousness was never deserved everyone bleeds is it so hard to atone? why can't you see that you're not alone

Darklands 04:33
come to darklands where you can disappear where the magpies guard and the crows conceal long may you run where the shadows play tease the darkly skies and kiss the dreams away think what you will it's not your place to judge one soul's poison is another's love if you turn a blind eye to the images haunting you'll draw the wrath and the voice will come calling it's calling it's calling and it's calling me down it's calling it's calling and i can't face it down in the darklands breach the mystery catch your breath and seal your release the high desert dusk shadows reveal an unspoken tongue shared with those who can feel here it's safe insomuch as it's guarded the hazards are fierce and their cares are discarded the lure is strong it's intoxicating but steel yourself the dark is still waiting it's calling it's calling and it's calling me down it's calling it's calling and i can't turn around across the darklands we're all runaways we can steal the night and kiss the days away don't say a word or the spell will be broken the night is still young and it will come calling it's calling it's calling and it's calling me down it's calling it's calling and i can't turn around i'm falling i'm falling and it's following me down i'm falling freefalling and it's all crashing down

Drown 05:43
oh little shadow how far you've come suffered their derision you've endured everyone drawn in by the wealth below but haunted by the undertow leave your cares above the sea the siren calls baby won't you come drown with me? oh little shadow don't look so blue this world wasn't meant for the tender likes of you oh little shadow won't you come with me? let us take our leave from this world of misery oh little shadow how long you've fought you've clawed and you've scratched out all the dignity you've wrought oh little shadow can i carry you away? let us take our leave from this world in disarray drawn in by the wealth below but haunted by the undertow leave your cares above the sea Poseidon calls baby won't you come drown with me? surrender to the sea surrender here with me leave it all behind

every day it's the same lather rinse and defeat nothing ever changes save for the moments we bleed we have grown hollow inside does this look romantic to you? we chose the easy way out now this is all that we do once you fall you've arrived no one gets out alive we just have to ride this one out no one gets out alive scraping out what we can what a way to subsist we can only pretend we can only persist when you come you've arrived no one gets out alive we just have to ride this one out no one gets out alive the dream is always the same march in the grey parade an exercise in nihilism our acquiescence is nihilism once you fall you've arrived no one gets out alive we just have to grind this one out no one gets out alive

about

Our seventh album, and a return home of sorts. "The Bleak Disease" is shorthand for the unfettered greed that continues to flourish in the face of unprecedented inequality and environmental destruction. The first seven cuts on the record, recorded back home in Denver over the last year and a half, represent a return to the electro sound that the band is known for. The final four songs were recorded in Austin during sessions for the previous album, Dark Star Disarray, but were cut from the final track listing because they didn't work in the context of the other songs.
